If you browse through her instagram, you can’t help but notice her OOTD photos – edgy and daring street style. She was named as ‘Puteri Persahabatan’ (a title that is equivalent to ‘Miss Congeniality’ in American pageants) at Puteri Muslimah Asia held in Indonesia earlier this year. Get to know more about her, her sense of fashion and plans for 2019 in this exclusive interview for the second edition of 1001 Spotlight.
Hi Mals, how are you? Any plans for new year?
I’m good! Plans? Sadly, no plans for new year. But, I’m looking forward to it. If you ask me about azam tahun baru, my cliche answer would be: successful academically and in everything that I do. (laugh)
You were chosen as ‘Puteri Persahabatan’ of Puteri Muslimah Asia 2018, tell us more about that.
I did not expect to win! My intention was just to enjoy the whole experience. I was grateful enough to be chosen as one of the participants. I wanted to be a role model – to inspire my generation of hijabis that we can also be successful. We’ll never know our limits if we don’t try.
We believe fashion is something that you love. Who is your favourite designer?
I don’t have a specific designer (to mention) because I’m mostly inspired by a lot of random street looks – especially over-sized and trendy shirts, love!
Can you recall your first collaboration?
I don’t remember my first collaboration. I’m forgetful. (laugh) But, when I was 16 I was approached by Naforrer – a local designer. At that time, I was asked to attend a fashion talk with other experienced bloggers and fashion people. I was just a young teenage girl with no experience at all. I only did OOTDs! That’s when I got inspired to keep growing; learning a lot from them. My family and my bestfriend, Eyan Omar has always been very supportive in letting me do the things that I love!
Describe your style in 3 words.
Street look, minimalist and classy-vintage – depending on the occasion though!
Who is your ultimate idol?
Surely, it’s Vivy Yusof and Neelofa. I love how they carry their brands. Vivy looks so humble to all her workers as well as fans! Although she’s busy, she still makes time for her family.
What are your hopes for next year?
Next year, I hope I can spread my wings – not just in Brunei. (Probably), creating my own brand, insyaAllah!
Well then, good luck and a Happy new year to you!
Thanks love! Happy New Year to you too.
